The First Things You Should Do After Your Engagement

Share the news of your engagement in person first

After you get engaged, spend some time celebrating with your fiance and just enjoying the moment + their presence. When you’re ready to share the news, tell those closest to you before posting it on social media. If possible, try to tell them in person, especially parents and relatives. If in person isn’t an option, opt for FaceTime or a phone call. That way is much more personal than a text or hearing it through the grapevine.

Taking the time to personally tell those close to you will mean so much to them and allow you to fully celebrate with them! When you look back, you’ll enjoy having those special moments of true celebration. After you’ve shared the news in person with those you want, post it on social media! There’s numerous photo options that range from romantic to silly, but we love seeing them all!

Insure your engagement ring

Of course, when you’re recently engaged, your first thoughts don’t usually revolve around what might happen to your ring in twenty years. However, insuring your ring is an important step and will bring a peace of mind that will help take another stress off your plate. It’s easy to put the “unromantic” and “unexciting” steps like insuring your ring on the back burner. However, think of it as not only realizing the ring’s financial value, but what it represents too! This brings even more significance to the task, and it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Bonus tip! While we’re talking about the ring, it’s also always a good idea to get your ring sized soon after the engagement. Many newly engaged brides put this off because they want to show off their ring. But, it greatly increases the chances of the ring falling off or getting misplaced and lost. Getting your ring resized can take a few weeks so the quicker you do it, the quicker you’ll get it back. And just in time for your engagement photos!

Pick a venue, then announce the date

Right after asking to see the ring, the next question is usually “when’s the wedding?” While it’s helpful to give a ballpark estimate, such as “we’re planning on next fall” or “October of 2021”, hold off on giving an exact date that you’re planning on. Before finalizing a date, try to finalize a venue. Many times, couples are determined to use a certain location or venue (or other vendor), and that will determine what day they get married. Make sure your dream venue is available before sharing your date with all your friends.

At our venue, with all-inclusive wedding packages, an in-house wedding + floral design team and North Georgia’s most trusted wedding vendors, the Tate House staff ensures your Georgia Wedding is planned to perfection so you can enjoy a stress-free wedding day to celebrate your marriage with your loved ones!

At our southern venue, we would love to invite you to stroll through the centuries old oaks, lush gardens, six flowing fountains and picturesque statues surrounding the Atlanta outdoor wedding site. Come tour our North Georgia wedding venue that features the 19,000 square foot mansion and 4,000 square foot formal ballroom.

Stay tuned next month for Part Two! Have anything else you’d add to the list? We would love to hear! Happy Planning!
