How They Met

Gabbie and Adam met on the first day of freshman year at Dalton State College. He was playing golf for the school, and she was playing tennis. The new players of the tennis and golf teams had to meet at a sports medicine clinic for a physical that morning. Gabbie recalls, “I was the only freshman on my team, so I was by myself with all of the golf players. I remember seeing him that morning and immediately texting my friend Maria, who later would be my Maid-of-Honor, telling her that there was this super cute guy on the golf team at the sports physical clinic. Surprisingly enough, the team trainer that was conducting parts of the physical called Adam and I back to do the eye test together. I failed the test with flying colors and the first words Adam ever said to me were, ‘You need to get your eyes checked!’ I wanted to die of embarrassment in this moment, but thinking back it makes me emotional because it was the start of our love story and little 18 year old me had no idea what an amazing life with Adam I had ahead of myself.”

The Proposal

The duo was in Gothenburg, Sweden at the botanical gardens with his family. While Gabbie had an idea of what was coming, she had no clue when he was going to pop the question. She shares, “We were at the grand entrance of the gardens and I asked to take a picture. We took our picture and he quickly got down on one knee and proposed! We were both so nervous, I was speechless. I couldn’t get a ‘yes’ out of my mouth, but the look on my face was enough for Adam, he knew I was trying to say yes!”

The Wedding

Tell us about what inspired your timeless all-white wedding? “Flowers, flowers, flowers! From the get go, I knew I wanted a very elegant and whimsical wedding. I wanted some color in my wedding stationery, but the rest of my wedding I wanted to be timeless and white. I almost laugh at the word timeless because I feel like timeless can mean just about anything in terms of wedding decor, but I really focused on my wedding not looking messy in the sense of making sure I had a really concise and clear vision. I knew if I tried to incorporate color in my flowers or other decor, I would end up losing my vision, so I kept it easy with white flowers and mostly white decor! Another key component to my vision was personality. I wanted guests to experience even the smallest of details and think, ‘Wow, that is so Adam and Gabbie.’ I think it’s super important for your wedding to encompass who you are.”

What do you feel was the most special component of your wedding? “There are so many details that were so special to me. I really really loved my string quartet because all of the music for the entrances of our family, wedding party, and my entrance were love songs by Taylor Swift. Our parents and grandparents walked out to Wildest Dreams, Adam and the wedding party walked out to Lover, I walked out to Enchanted (which still brings tears to my eyes when I listen to the song in string quartet version), and the recessional was Love Story. Another detail was our photo booth and guest book. I was very adamant that I wanted a black and white photo with our monogram at the top of the photo. Cindy at Tate house was so amazing in making sure that happened for me and I will forever be appreciative of her for that. My guests received 2 copies of the photo they took in the photobooth, and I asked for them to put one in my guest book and sign their name. I will cherish that book forever. To see my guests so happy and taking photos with their friends and family, warms my heart and makes me so happy that that was at MY wedding.”

How important were the typical wedding traditions? Did you do anything outside the norm to personalize your wedding? “I think some traditions are important, but I think if the tradition goes against your personal style or wants, you need to stay true to yourself! For example, I did not want the traditional song that’s played when the bride walks down the aisle. I knew it would always be a Taylor Swift love song. We also chose to do our Maid-of-Honor and Best Man toasts at our rehearsal dinner. We wanted to prioritize our guests and getting them their food quicker and getting them to the dance floor!”

What drew you to Tate House when selecting your wedding venue? “Our wedding date was September 2nd. We actually had an original wedding date of September 16th, 2023. Unfortunately, our original wedding venue was destroyed by a tornado in January of 2023. I eventually landed on Tate house and the only date they had left that was close to mine was September 2nd. It was amazing how everything fell into place because all of my other vendors were available on the 2nd as well. Looking back now, I couldn’t imagine myself getting married anywhere else other than Tate house. When I got engaged, I knew I wanted an estate style venue with garden themes, and Tate house fully embodied that description for me.”
