Southern Luxury Garden Wedding

We’re so excited to share Ashlyn and Scott’s stunning Southern Luxury Garden Wedding on the blog today! Captured beautifully by Alex & Cammy Photography, this ice blue and gold wedding was one for the books. We’re sharing our favorite photos and all the details from the bride herself below!

How did you meet your husband?

We met through mutual friends when we were teenagers. We went on one date and that was that. But fast forward a few years.  Scott was a student at the Citadel in Charleston and I was a student at the University of Georgia.  When my relationship with my boyfriend came to an end, Scott somehow found out. He contacted me through social media first, then called and asked me to go out. Our first date was in December 2013when we were both home for the holidays.

Tell us the story of how he popped the question:

For three years we somehow made our long distance relationship work. Scott proposed in December 2016. By then Scott had graduated from the Citadel and was in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and I was still at the University of Georgia. We were home for Christmas and one afternoon he took me to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  As we were walking through the gardens at sunset he stopped near a pond, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  Our parents, grandparents, and siblings were watching from a bridge nearby! His parents hosted a dinner party for us all and afterward we met many of our friends to celebrate! Scott planned it all and it was a perfect night!

What was your wedding date and why did you choose it?

We said “I do” on July 15, 2017! I was scheduled to graduate from UGA and my brother was graduating from high school in May. One of Scott’s sisters was engaged before we were and her wedding was planned for August 5. I wanted to start graduate school in August. That left June and July for a wedding. One of my sisters already had plans to spend the month of June in Australia, so June was out. That left a hot summer weekend in July to choose from! We almost booked a venue in FL but something just didn’t feel right about it, so we decided to keep looking for a venue. When we toured the Tate House and found out July 15 was available, we knew it was the place for us.

What was your overall vision for your wedding?

A wedding in a garden.

What do you feel was the most special component of your wedding?

The setting!

How involved was your groom in the wedding planning process?

Scott was in Texas for most of the planning process, but whenever I needed his opinion he was there to help! And I have to give him credit for actually finding the Tate House! When I told him I just didn’t feel right about the venue in FL (actually I was freaked out and stressed out because there was no wedding planner at the venue in FL and I didn’t know how my mom and I were going to plan a destination wedding without help) he started looking online for a venue. He saw the Tate House online and told me to take a look. I’m so glad he saw it! One little detail he was firm about……He didn’t want cake for his groom’s cake. He decided on cookies. Scott’s a surfer dude so the cookies were decorated with waves and surfboards.

Did you have a wedding theme or color pallet, and if so how or why did you choose it?

Our color pallet was ice blue and white with gold accent. I chose ice blue for the bridesmaid dresses. I’m a simple kind of gal so the flowers were all white with greenery. The Tate House is already soooo beautiful so there was no need to go crazy with decorations/flowers.

How important are the typical wedding traditions? Did you plan on doing something outside of the norm to make your wedding more of your own?

We pretty much love all things traditional. Not seeing each other before I walked down the aisle was a must.

Why did you choose your wedding venue?

It was perfect for me. The historical Tate House is a perfect blend of southern charm. From the beautiful bridal cottage, the mansion and gardens to the most organized and willing staff, delicious food and affordable packages. A wedding day there is like living a fairytale for a day.
