1. Stick to the Wedding Registry

While it’s tempting to get creative or sentimental, the couple put a lot of thought into their registry. Each item is something they truly want or need, so you can’t go wrong by choosing from it. This ensures your gift will be both appreciated and useful. (If you’re a close family member or part of the wedding party, you may have a little more room to go off-registry for something personal.)

2. Stay Within Budget

Gift-giving should be a joyful experience—not a financial burden. As a starting point, consider gifting around $50 for acquaintances or extended family, and $100–$150 if you’re a close friend or relative. The couple will appreciate your thoughtfulness far more than the price tag.

3. Team Up for a Group Gift

If the item you’d love to give is outside your budget, consider going in with other guests. Splitting the cost makes it possible to gift something extra special without overspending. Just be clear with the group about how much each person is expected to contribute.

4. Ship It—Don’t Bring It

Unless specifically requested, skip bringing gifts to the wedding. The couple already has a lot to manage on their big day, and figuring out how to get gifts home adds unnecessary stress. Instead, ship your gift directly to their home—ideally before the wedding date.

5. Give the Gift of Cash (or Experiences)

While registry items are always a safe choice, some guests prefer giving cash. Contributing to the couple’s honeymoon fund or helping them book a special excursion creates memories they’ll cherish forever. This is a great way to give them flexibility and a unique experience they may not have been able to plan otherwise.
